15/12/12 League Birmingham City (a) 2-2 draw

Don't panic, we've got Yannick!

The influential Jedi missed this game through suspension. The defensive midfielder handed the armband to KG which was perhaps a surprise to many.

The away side started very brightly indeed and were rewarded with some great work in the first half with a 39th minute goal from Glenn Murray. Supplied by the dazzling Yannick Bolasie, Murray tucked away the ball into the back of the net at the near post to claim his 19th of the season. It was what the first half performance deserved from Palace. The second half began in similar fashion with the home side finding it difficult to contain what looked a rampant Palace side. The lead was doubled after 6- minutes when it was Murray again converting a cross from the left by Parr. This took Murray’s goal tally to 20 goals and all before the Christmas period. The significant part of the match was when Birmingham chose to make their substitutions. With his first touch, the player more likely to have played basketball than football converted a header to half the deficit on 66 minutes. That was the game changer as Birmingham found something from somewhere. But this is how their season has been, only started to play once they are down by one or two goals. The pressure was telling and perhaps this is where we missed Jedi protecting the back line, but Diop scored from another header after 82 minutes. It was perhaps a draw snatched from the jaws of a win by Palace but the momentum continues.

View from TheEaglesBeak; Just like we missed Murray at Hull, we missed Jedi at Birmingham but these would have been games we’d have lost last season so times have changed. Strength is depth is the key ahead of a busy schedule. And remember, we remain 2nd in the table, two points off top spot. Yes, that’s 2nd in the table! I’ll take that  ...
