The pitch wasn't in great shape |
The weather was a real factor leading up to this and it was
touch and go whether the game would be on or not. Luckily for the travelling
support, it was game on.
And once again, Palace started the better and it was Murray
once again scoring in first ten minutes of the game. There were plenty of
chances to go two up but it started to look like the same old story. Palace
looked very dangerous on the break with Zaha, Bolasie and Moritz all quick on
the ball but the home side worked their way back into it. And the equaliser
came just before the half, a twenty yarder from Andy Reid which left Speroni
rooted to the spot. The 2nd half began in similar fashion but it was
always going to be difficult on a heavy pitch. We pushed for a second and
perhaps made more headway but Holloway decided enough was enough and replaced
Zaha and Moritz with Williams and Easter. The ground was not conjusive to wide
play with all the rain so the change was sensible. And it seemed to pay off,
Murray put Palace into the lead on 81 minutes and on a personal note, his 23rd
goal of the season. A fantastic achievement. Unfortunately, that was not it.
The minute the referee gave five minutes of Fergie time the Palace fans were
suffering from the jitters. Then it came, an equaliser from Sharp and the game
ended 2-2. Rough luck but it’s a point.
View from
TheEaglesBeak; I get the frustration but 25 games played, 44 points taken and 4th
in the table with all to play for. A very decent end to 2012 and at the good
end of the table. Bring on 2013!
